Manufacturing Carrier Tapes

At the beginning of 2018, LCR management decided to do manufacturing in the Singapore premises which is a B2 Factory / Workshop at 28 Kranji Loop. In this manufacturing framework, LCR will produce carrier tapes for the semi-conductor industry tape-and-reel configuration in Singapore and abroad.
The tape-and-reel configuration is used for transport and storage from the manufacturer of the electronic components to the customer, and for use in the customer manufacturing plant. The configuration is designed for feeding components to automatic-placement machines for surface mounting on board assemblies. The configuration can be used for all SMT* packages and provides component lead isolation during shipping, handling, and processing.
The complete configuration consists of a carrier tape with sequential individual cavities that hold individual components, and a cover tape that seals the carrier tape to retain the components in the cavities. In most cases, single reels of components are inserted into intermediate boxes before shipping. The tape forming process is as shown below.

*Surface-mount technology (SMT) is a method for producing electronic circuits in which the components are mounted or placed directly onto the surface of printed circuit boards. An electronic device so made is called a surface-mount device.

Raw materials used for the carrier tape production  Polystyrene (PS)  and are quality assured to provide consistent sealing strength and stable surface resistivity. Precise dimensions are ensured in our process and well-defined pockets are designed for high-speed automated taping and surface mount equipment.

*Tape-and-reel feed mechanism used to load components into a pick-and-place machine (SMT (surface mount technology) component placement systems).

SMT (surface mount technology) component placement systems, commonly called pick-and-place machines or P&Ps, are robotic machines which are used to place surface-mount devices (SMDs) onto a printed circuit board (PCB). They are used for high speed, high precision placing of broad range of electronic components, like capacitors, resistors, integrated circuits onto the PCBs which are in turn used in computers, consumer electronics as well as industrial, medical, automotive, military and telecommunications equipment. Similar equipment exists for through hole components.
